Twin moms still jammin’

In a dream this week, Kelly Good-Singleton coasted on stage at a concert in her vintage roller skates, coming face to face with the epic ’70s rockers who make up Foreigner.

The recently reunited bandmates handed her an autographed guitar.

The 42-year-old rock ’n’ roll mom from Stuarts Draft – and her twin sister, Shelly Good-Cook – have Foreigner on the brain this week as they vie for top prize in a nationwide air guitar championship that could make the dream a reality. Kelly and Shelly teamed up in August at the Shenandoah County Fair to record a 60-second video of impassioned strumming (without guitars) that made them finalists in the band’s nationwide competition.

Online voting will determine which air guitarist (or team) will fly to Honolulu to receive a guitar signed by Mick Jones during a New Year’s Eve show.

If the twins win, it’d be hundreds of miles and a few years’ distance from when they heard the band at the roller rink where they grew up in Woodstock.

“When Shelly and I do things, we don’t go halfway, we let it all hang out,” Kelly said.

She said many competitors “were kind of phoning it in,” but the sisters, who stumbled upon it, made sure to shoo family away before kicking it up a notch.

“Who says moms in their (EARLY) 40s can’t rock out in an air guitar contest?” Shelly wrote in an online plea for votes.

The twins just missed seeing Foreigner that day at the fair, but did pick up a signed CD, which happens to be the consolation prize if they don’t go to Hawaii.

“I’ve already got that,” Kelly said, laughing Wednesday in her home, where shelves are peppered with Jimmy Buffett and Beatles memorabilia.

She had to stand in line and donate blood to get the CD.

In the months after their faux jamming, the karaoke-veteran twins have started believing they have a chance.

That’s in part because of the skating dream. And other omens.

Kelly, an assistant manager at Home Depot, said the store’s music recently changed, and now includes a Foreigner song.

Shelly heard “Double Vision” in the car this week.

Neither twin has been to Hawaii, despite visits by Shelly to 48 states, and they’ve never taken a twins-only vacation. Until the winner is announced Friday, the pair will continue slowly making plans for the prized guitar. They may use it as a fundraiser at Relay For Life.

One thing is certain. If they win, “no husbands,” on the trip.

“It’s going to be Shelly and Kelly. We earned this,” Kelly said. “And were going to need some twin time.”
