For the third time, a Staunton man has been sentenced to federal prison on child pornography possession charges.

A judge Tuesday imposed a sentence of 13 years and four months for Clifton Thomas Talley, 59, arrested in July after a Staunton Public Library patron spotted him looking at an image of a young girl on his laptop computer. He will also undergo lifetime supervision upon release.

According to U.S. General District Court documents, Talley admitted to having nude pictures of males between 13 and 35. During a search, police found more than 1,000 pornographic images on Talley’s computer, including 247 later identified as depicting minors. On a second search at the home of Talley’s mother on Burnley Drive, where the man was living, police recovered a camera, CDs and a notebook with Web site names and e-mail addresses.

Talley was twice convicted of federal child pornography charges, according to the Virginia State Police sex offender registry.

In 1997, Talley received a “relatively short” 60-day sentence, according to a motion filed by United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley.

“Despite the defendant’s large break, he violated his supervised release in committing the offenses that resulted in his second substantive prosecution,” the motion states.

In 2001, he was convicted again after engaging in “disturbing chat” with an FBI agent posing as a 14-year-old boy. Talley used the screen name “BoysRHot” and asked about the purported boy’s sexual development and experiences. The chat prompted a search, during which authorities found thousands of child pornography images and movie files. Some depicted prepubescent children and acts of sadism and masochism.

He was sentenced to five years in prison.

Prior convictions and continued pursuit of pornography led prosecutors this time to request a longer sentence than recommended in guidelines.

“The defendant has demonstrated that he has ‘no respect for the law,’ ” prosecutors argued.

When the case first moved to federal court, attorneys tussled over the legality of Talley’s arrest and subsequent searches, but his defense attorney was unsuccessful in arguing police lacked probable cause to arrest him.

Talley is being held at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange.

I can’t agree with keeping this creep.  Sorry. “W” already has someone; not as bright and skilled with the computer, but has someone nevertheless.

Now let’s be nice and try to make something positive out of this. Once he and little W (and we ALL know who that is!) are finished playing their respective games with the legal system, and are safely tucked away in their cells, they can be hooked up as pen pals and become BFF’s (I think that is what the kids call it nowadays.) They can call themselves the “Third Time is the Charm Club.“

This guy doesn’t care about the law.  He is a perverted, evil child predator.  He needs to be where he can’t get at innocent children at all.  Pedophiles are not “curable” nor do they want to be cured.  It’s time we stopped giving them a break right up front and make the punishment unbearable enough to make them think twice about doing it again.

What good is a 59-year-old man who mooches off his elderly mother and is facing his third conviction in child porn? If he has brain enough to maintain and operate a computer, he could work!
Sadism and masochism images involving children?  He should be dragged to the gallows behind a police car!
