A woman cleaning the Staunton Public Library spotted an intruder just after 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a Lexington man.
Authorities charged Brian James Harrison, 24, with grand larceny and breaking and entering.
Staunton police Officer Lisa Klein said officers arrived within moments of the emergency call, and found Harrison outside the library, not far from a digital camera and printer docking station that had been removed from the library.
Harrison had entered through a furnace room window, Klein said, but later denied having been in the library. He told police he was searching for a bathroom, but chose to urinate outside the library, Klein said.
The camera was found in a shopping bag near the library’s front door.
Harrison is free on bond from Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
