Pocketknife wielded in midnight dispute at Briarwood

A scuffle and knife fight at Briarwood Apartments late Wednesday sent four men to the hospital with minor injuries.

Augusta County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the apartments just before midnight, then continued with interviews Thursday to sort out what happened after a domestic dispute grew into a physical confrontation.

Lt. A.C. Powers said investigators are unsure if charges will follow.

The dispute began when a woman, 20, argued with a man, 22, authorities said. Neighbors said the woman came out of Apartment 101 with a child, screaming about being hit.

Shortly afterward, two 19-year-old men and a 20-year-old man confronted another man inside Apartment 101, authorities said.

Those men suffered minor injuries when their target pulled a pocketknife, authorities said. All were taken to Augusta Health.

“All subjects were released by early morning,” Powers said.
