Pizza man robbed at gunpoint
A pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint late Tuesday night at the Days Inn in Mint Spring, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Aaron LeVeck of the Sheriff’s Office said that, at about 11:23 p.m., the male driver knocked on the door of one of the hotel rooms. A man answered, dressed in all-black, with a long-sleeved sweatshirt, a toboggan hat and a blue bandana over his face, robbing the driver at gunpoint, using a dark colored handgun. The suspect then left on foot and the driver subsequently contacted police.
LeVeck said he believes the suspect entered the lobby of the hotel some time before or after the robbery, but because the surveillance camera was either not working or did not have a tape inside, it would not be of help to the investigation. He said the hotel had exterior lights around it.
He said the suspect left with money, but declined to disclose the amount.
“In my opinion, it wasn’t a large sum of money,” LeVeck said. “It doesn’t make it any less serious.”
LeVeck said the suspect is a white man 18 to 25 years old, 5-feet 5- inches to 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighing 160 to 180 pounds. The bandanna, he said, covered everything but the suspect’s eyes and the bridge of his nose.
The sheriff’s office is searching for a purple, PT Cruiser that LeVeck said was reported to have left the hotel around the time of the incident.
Armed robberies in Augusta County have been an infrequent occurrence of late, LeVeck said.
“As far as robberies, this is the first of this kind in quite some time,” LeVeck said.
