McCain camp to outline energy policy
Two Shenandoah Valley state legislators will hold a news conference this morning to explain how Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s energy plan will aid the Shenandoah Valley and Virginia.
McCain campaign spokesman Tyler Brown said Del. Chris Saxman, R-Staunton, and Del. Matt Lohr, R-Rockingham, will discuss the McCain energy plan during an 11 a.m. briefing at Harrisonburg’s Court Square.
Saxman is the co-chairman of the McCain Virginia campaign.
Brown said the McCain energy plan reaches out to sectors of the Shenandoah Valley economy such as the poultry industry.
The McCain plan, known as the Lexington Project, supports additional drilling, an expanded use of nuclear energy and additional research while investing in alternative energy sources.
Meanwhile, as the Barack Obama campaign continues to look at Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine as a vice presidential running mate, another Virginia elected official is on the McCain list of potential running mates.
Seventh District Congressman Eric Cantor has been asked to submit personal documents to McCain.
Cantor, 45, a Richmond-area congressman, is chief deputy minority whip of the U.S. House.
He is a four-term member of Congress.
