Man arrested for speedway attack
Deputies arrested a Waynesboro man Thursday night, pinning charges on him for the attack of an Eastside Speedway security guard.
Authorities said Christopher Root, 24, assaulted the nearly 7-foot, 270 pound Troy Price from behind Oct. 24. The attack sent the Fishersville man to the hospital where he suffered five strokes that left him incapacitated on the right side of his body, said his wife, Juli Price.
A medical team rushed Troy Price to Augusta Health Medical Center in Fishersville. From there, he was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was hospitalized in the U.Va. neurological intensive care unit until doctors transferred him to the stroke unit.
Speedway Manager Christopher Hammer said several people were barred from the track after the incident.
