Today shapes up as a busy day of politics in the area.

Republican U.S. Senate nominee Jim Gilmore will appear at 2 p.m. at Shenandoah Pizza in Staunton and at 5 p.m. South River Grill in Waynesboro.

Gilmore also has scheduled stops in Harrisonburg. The former Virginia governor is opposed by the man who succeeded him in Richmond, Democrat Mark Warner, in Tuesday’s election to replace the retiring John Warner.

Mark Warner holds overwhelming advantages in fund-raising the polls. Warner is set for a campaign visit noon Sunday at Mill Street Grill in Staunton.

Also today, from noon to 2 p.m., the Bush Legacy Tour bus comes to Waynesboro’s Willow Oak Plaza. The bus will be parked just outside the Waynesboro Democratic Committee headquarters.

Sponsored by Americans United For Change, the bus is a mobile museum with exhibits highlighting what the partisan organizers describe as a long list of policy failures by President Bush.

The 45-foot long, 28-ton bus features exhibits organizers say show “how eight years of failed Bush/McCain conservative policies have left an economy in shambles, millions more without health insurance, an endless and mismanaged war in Iraq.”

The bus has traveled 20,000 miles to 150 communities including President Bush’s hometown of Crawford, Texas. since leaving Washington, D.C., in June.

Waynesboro Democratic Committee Chairman Chris Graham said he was aware of the bus coming to central Virginia and was able to get a commitment for today’s stop after e-mailing Americans United For Change.
