A spark from a trash compactor motor at the McKee Foods plant in Stuarts Draft caused a fire Tuesday afternoon.

No one was injured and no “appreciable” damage was done to the machine or interior of the plant, said McKee spokesman Mike Gloekler. He said a contractor was working on the machine when a spark caught cardboard on fire at about 2:30 p.m. at the plant at 272 Patton Farm Road.

Five Augusta County fire departments responded, clearing the scene about an hour later.

The Collegedale, Tenn.-based company is best known for producing Little Debbie snack cakes.
