A Craigsville man was killed Friday afternoon when he lost control of his pickup truck in the 2000 block of Estaline Valley Road near Augusta Correctional Center.

Charles Talbert, 56, was driving south when he drove his white 1995 Nissan pickup truck off the right side of the road, overcorrected and overturned on an embankment, landing back on the road at 4:02 p.m., said state police Trooper S.A. Simmons.

Talbert, partially ejected from the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, Simmons said.

Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, he said.

Authorities did not know where Talbert was headed, but said he was traveling away from his home when he crashed on Route 601 near Route 682, less than a mile from Augusta Correctional Center, west of Craigsville.

The wreck closed the two-lane road for more than two hours.
