Bribery charged against former officer
Published: November 4, 2009
Already racked with accusations she delivered drugs to an Augusta County Correctional Center inmate, authorities charged former corrections officer April M. Hogsett with an new charge Tuesday: bribery of a public official.
In late October an Augusta County grand jury indicted Hogsett, 26, after an informant told authorities that Hogsett, known as “Lisa,” was in contact with inmate Anthony Roach, 33, who was known for distributing drugs in jail, according to a warrant.
Authorities said they confirmed the informant’s story with a phone call and inmate money order records.
Hogsett, who was scheduled for a Nov. 9 plea hearing, already faced the possibility of up to 10 years in prison. Bribery of a public official, a Class 5 felony, could add up to 10 more years to Hogsett’s sentencing should she be found guilty.
Details about the bribery case were not immediately available this morning.
