RICHMOND — Tess Miller’s banker with 15 seconds left will go down in history as the last bucket in Buffalo Gap’s historic, second straight Group A, Division 1 title as the Bison beat Bland County 50-40 to take home the crown Friday at the Siegel Center in Richmond.

With the win, the Bison become the first back-to-back Group A champions since Floyd County did it in 1993 and 1994. The team the Buffaloes beat for the titles in those two years: Buffalo Gap.

Gap senior Sara Lamneck led the way Friday for the Bison with 19 points and 11 rebounds and was joined in double figures by Renee Burford with 13 points and Holly Morgan’s 10.

After building up a 31-17 lead at the half, the Bison were outscored 23-19 in the second half, but held on for the win.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, coach Chad Coffey pumped his fist and the large, loud contingent from Buffalo Gap — including a big student section filled with gold and black — took to its feet.
