Ken Farmer of TV’s “Antiques Roadshow” will be conducting appraisals at the Antique Market, adjacent to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon from 1-4 p.m. on Aug. 4 during the Virginia Highlands Festival. Only 75 tickets are available for this event and cost $20 each. The price also includes admission to the Antiques Market for that day (one appraisal item per ticket.)

VW Bug-Around will be held from 8 a.m. until about 2 p.m. Sunday at Nethken Associates on Expo Road in Fishersville. It is a family-oriented car show for Volkswagen owners.
The Beverley Manor chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met May 22 at Summit Square in Waynesboro. Regent Barbara Riel called the meeting to order and led the opening ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance and the American’s Creed. Dorothy Lee Rosen led the singing of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Nancy Harrison, the marketing coordinator for Summit Square, spoke about preparing for future needs in long-term care. Riel read the president general’s message and Emma Jordan read the national defense report. Linda Bishop read the minutes and Jacqueline Cahoon gave the treasurers report. Rosen gave a conservation minute. Julia Campbell gave an update on the nationalization ceremonies. Jacqueline Cahoon conducted a memorial service for Ann Bernard. New member Alice Cassade was installed and Frances Taber was installed as a full-member of the chapter. Elizabeth McAuliffe became a full-member of the chapter. New out-of-town members are Martha Wilson Black and Lenore Gibbs Merrill.
A Camp Dragonfly benefit yard and book sale is scheduled today from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at 124 Poland St.,Waynesboro, across from Wal-Mart (follow the signs). All kinds of items available.
Waynesboro Heritage Foundation Inc. will hold its membership meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Waynesboro Heritage Museum, 420 W. Main St. Elizabeth Spilman Massie and Cortney Skinner will present a powerpoint presentation of their book “Images of America: Waynesboro” and will be available for book signings.
The Waynesboro Fire Department has tentatively set the date for its fundraising auction in September but is currently in need of items to be donated for that auction. No white goods please. Items may be dropped off at the fire station on Broad Street or call 942-6730 for pick up of large items.

Ten Speed Press announces the publication and release of “Mrs. Rowe’s Little Book of Southern Pies,” by Mollie Cox Bryan and Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant and Bakery in July. The book is a collection of more than 65 of Rowe’s pie recipes. Bryan lives in Waynesboro with her family.
“Celebrate America!” luncheon, Valley Women’s Connection of Greater Staunton Area; July 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mrs. Rowe’s Country Buffet, Mt. Crawford; luncheon offers food and fellowship.
