Augusta County Library, Fishersville
The Augusta County Libraries will be closed on July 4.
Mondays
- 6:30 p.m. Family Story Night. The perfect way to start the week. The whole family is invited.
Tuesdays
- 9:30 and 11 a.m. Toddler Time. Get your wiggles out! Short stories, finger plays, magnetic board activities and much more. Especially for active toddlers and their caregivers.
Wednesdays
- 10 a.m. Preschool time. Soar into reading! Extra special books, music, rhymes and crafts for children age 3-5 and an adult.
Thursdays
- 10 a.m. Mother Goose Rhymes. For children ages birth through 2 and their caregivers.
Also at the Augusta County Library, Fishersville:
- Book Nook Club — Wednesdays, 4 p.m. Book discussions and refreshments using the book “Gregor the Overlander” by Suzanne Collins. Grades 4-6.
- Kids Extravaganza — Thursdays, 2 p.m. Special programs designed to engage and excited children ages 5-11.
- Knit Together! — 7-8 p.m. Thursday. Click, click, click! Get those needles going at the library. We welcome knitting and crocheting enthusiasts of all skill levels. Ages 5 and up.
- Chess Knights — Thursday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Want to learn more about chess or challenge others to play? Ages 5 and up.
- Tuesday Evening Book Club — This is a new group that has just begun meeting on the second Tuesday of the month from 7-8 p.m. We have room for a few more book lovers who enjoy lively discussions. Contact Mary Binda if interested. Ages 18 and up.
- Thursday, July 10, 2 p.m.: Spiders, Spiders, Everywhere! Let Lowe’s help you create some outrageous arachnids, part of “Kidz Extravaganza” (exciting, engaging programs for children ages 5-11). Youth program room.
- Friday, July 11, 6:30 p.m.: Gaming Fever (just for Tweens and Teens). Put your gaming skills on for DDR and Scene It games with “High School Musical” or “Harry Potter.” Board games, too! Youth program room.
- Thursday, July 17, 2 p.m.: Come on, let’s crawl to the UGLY BUG BALL! It’s party time! Games, crafts, snacks and fun, part of “Kidz Extravaganza” (exciting, engaging programs for children ages 5-11). Youth program room.
- Tuesday, July 22, 7 p.m.: Snakes Alive! Penelope the Python returns to check out the new Children’s Department. She’ll bring her owner, Ron Cromer. A limited number of free tickets are available at the Children’s Circulation Desk.
- Saturday, July 26, 9 a.m.: Internet Class. Computer classes are back! Sign up by July 25.

- Chess Club — Discover the wonders and challenges of chess with Ed Jankiewicz. Ages 5 and up. Thursdays, 4 p.m.

- Tuesday, July 1, 4 p.m.: Jon Austin, Magician Extraordinaire. Austin not only performs magic tricks, but he juggles while riding a unicycle. For the whole family.
- Tuesday, July 8, 6:30 p.m.: Coyote Clem the Clown. Magical tricks and balloon magic.
- Wednesday, July 9, 1:30 p.m.: Therapy Dogs Need Love, Too! Children of all ages are invited to read a favorite story to one of these hard-working dogs.
- Tuesday, July 15, 6 p.m.: Rock Painting. Ms. Gloria and Ms. Patty show kids how to paint rocks to look like bugs.
Waynesboro Public Library
Summer reading programs:
BéBé’s Book club for children. Catch the reading bug by reading and returning books for library bucks. Then shop for prizes at the “Bug Mart” opening June 21. Sign up through the end of July.
Lip Service to Literature – For ages 10 and up. Read “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding and discuss the book at L2L.
Adult Summer Read – Read “Harpers Ferry” by Ray Jones, attend the discussion in July and take a bus trip to Harpers Ferry in September. Copies of the book are available at the library for $7 each. Sign-up before July 23.
- Tuesday, July 1, 6:30 p.m. – Pajama Night. Wear your best pajamas, hear a story, make a craft, share some surprises, and have a bedtime snack.
- Thursday, July 3, 6:30 p.m. – B.Y.O. Bring your own dowel to create a funky hanging screen at this new creative crafting program.
- Monday, July 21, 6:00 p.m. – L2L “Lip Service to Literature” Discuss Lord of the Flies by William Golding for the young adult summer reading program and receive a prize bag.
- Tuesday, July 8, 12:00 noon - Music at the Library to be announced. Free pizza and soda provided.
- Thursday, July 10, 6:30 p.m. – B.Y.O. Bring your own mayonnaise jar to create a place to stash your stuff at this new creative crafting program.
- Saturday, July 12, 12:00 noon – Ugly Bug Ball. Enjoy crafts, snacks, and a special bug exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian.
- Tuesday, July 15, 6:30 p.m. – Pajama Night. Wear your best pajamas, hear a story, make a craft, share some surprises, and have a bedtime snack.
- Wednesday, July 16, 12:00-1:00 p.m. – Brown Bag Book Club. Read thought-provoking books and participate in fascinating and far-ranging discussion with other book lovers.

- Monday, July 21, 6:00 p.m. – L2L “Lip Service to Literature” Watch Lord of the Flies for the young adult summer reading program and receive a prize bag.
- Wednesday, July 23, 7:00 p.m. – Discussion for the Adult Summer Read. Dr. Edward Scott, V.P. of Academic Affairs at Mary Baldwin College, leads a discussion about the book Harpers Ferry by Ray Jones. Sign-up at the program for the September 12 bus trip to Harpers Ferry.
- Thursday, July 24, 6:30 p.m. – B.Y.O. Bring your own mini-light garland to create a cool nightlight at this new creative crafting program.
- Friday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. – Friday Night at the Movies featuring new releases. Enjoy big screen features with free popcorn and soda.
Staunton Public Library Children’s Programs
- Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. — Mother Goose Time: Rhymes, songs and activities that infants can enjoy. Programs for babies to age 2 and their caregivers.
- Monday and Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Time: Short stories, puppets and activities especially for 2-year-olds accompanied by an adult.
- Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. — Preschool Storytime: Special stories and activities that help 3- to 5-year-olds develop language skills.
- Wednesday, 2 p.m. Cool Stuff After School — Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade learn about books, culture and language through literature, crafts and games.
- Thursday, 2 p.m. A Little Cool Stuff — Special stories, songs and activities for kids in pre-k through first grade
- Summer Reading Games — through Aug. 16. Three games: Catch the Reading Bug for children; Metamorphosis for teens; Meta-4s for adults. More than $2,000 in prizes.
The Library will be closed on Sundays during the summer, June through August.
