Theft of mower will cost Legion
Published: April 16, 2009
I must admit that I write this letter out of pure frustration. The aggravation comes from experiencing a very costly theft of lawn equipment from American Legion Post 340, located on East Side Highway in Waynesboro. Recently you (person or persons unknown) broke into our storage building and took a lawn tractor, self-propelled walk-behind mower and a weed eater. The loss of the tractor, a John Deer Model LA130, serial number GX0130A13535, is financially devastating to us.
Our members do not expect thieves to understand or care that our organization exists totally on donations from our community and its members. We assume that the thieves are not intelligent, or caring enough, to know that we will have to replace the tractor with money that was going to be used for numerous local veterans and children’s programs we sponsor. We suppose you thieves may have thought that we were insured and we would simply pay a deductible to get a new tractor. Surely you considered this for justifying the theft of our equipment; but, you see it was not insured. So your actions will have a lengthy negative consequence on our organization and the many programs we offer to your community — and maybe even your family. I cannot believe that the money you might get for selling the stolen property will really benefit you long-term. Nor do I believe that you took our property because of the poor economy. Usually, people like you simply steal for short-term self satisfaction with total disregard for others.
Should you find a particle of decency about your persons, you may return the tractor to the very spot you took it fro
Meanwhile, we thank the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in trying to locate the stolen items.
