It’s time to work together to make a difference

I was taken aback by your recent editorial (“Bitter Pills, False Cures,” April 21) and it didn’t take long. The second sentence read: “For one thing in this there is reason to be thankful: A growing number of Democrats have concluded there is little hope among them or Republicans for enacting climate change initiatives.” Thankful?!? On the eve of Earth Day, when our attention is focusing on our impact on our environment, you are thankful that there is no change in sight?!? Shame on you. Perhaps you’re in denial and believe climate change is just a hoax. Have you done your homework? Have you read the research? We are changing this planet ... for the worse. How can you not notice that?

Secondly ... Three sentences. Out of all the words spewed in your editorial about reforming health care, that was all that was devoted to health care reform. Tort reform. That was your idea. Good idea, but more ideas are needed from your side of the aisle. The rest of the editorial was spent on Democrat-bashing and warning against a government takeover of our health care system. More and more, we see too much energy (and money) is spent on warning against government controls and new ideas, but failing to come up with any new ideas ourselves. So many times, our feet are entrenched in our own political positions, and we’re failing to think outside the box.

Serious debate is needed, make no mistake about it. But what is needed is ideas on solving these dilemmas we face. Millions are suffering without healthcare. Millions more are declaring bankruptcy, partly over medical bills. Our world is changing. Let’s quit the bashing and put our heads together on making a difference.
