Heroes are in our midst

Waynesboro has heroes. At about 3:30 p.m. May 17, I started to get into my car figuring that I had just enough time to get home to Staunton, change clothes and be in Crimora by 5 p.m. in time for my grandchildren’s recitals. Oh, no, I had a flat tire!

Picture in your mind an old befuddled woman standing in a parking lot trying to figure out how to change a flat tire. I haven’t changed a flat tire in about 30 years. I took the stuff out of the trunk – at least I knew where the spare was – but the jack didn’t look anything like what I remembered using way back then.

As I was staring at this stuff, a Waynesboro firetruck went by. The truck turned around and came back, pulled into the parking lot and three young men got out and asked if I needed help. The cavalry to the rescue!

They were delightful young men, helpful and accommodating. They got my flat tire changed in no time and had me back on the road — and I was only a few minutes late for the recitals!

Unfortunately, I did not get their names but, believe me, I will be forever grateful to those young men. What a wonderful crew the Waynesboro Fire Department has!

It is very seldom that people get recognized for good deeds. Thank Sherry Morgan.

Bravo to the helpful firefighters, and bravo to Sherry Morgan for taking the time to mention what they did!
