Deeds deserves your vote Tuesday

I am asking that you support Sen. Creigh Deeds in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

Creigh is a friend. When I had my period of illness, Creigh was there. He called, he cared and he wanted to help.  When our sons would go against each other in soccer at Buffalo Gap and Bath County, he would be there. We would stand by the fences being dads supporting and yelling for our kids. He is a man who is traditional enough to still have his pastor over for supper but current enough to know the need to author legislation like Megan’s Law.

Creigh, though humble, is fiercely committed to being a determined advocate for regular people, not special interests. Newspapers representing areas as vastly different as the “gold coast” of northern Virginia (The Washington Post) and the “coal coast” of southwest Virginia (the Bristol Herald-Courier) have endorsed Creigh.

He can win the primary and he can win the gubernatorial race. If he does, our area will benefit by having a neighbor in the executive mansion, and the state will benefit by having a man of Creigh’s character and dedication in office.

Last week a newspaper cartoon made a joke of all of us. It noted that Creigh Deeds puts the “goober” back in “gubernatorial.” Clever may be correct, not so much.

It is this stereotyping of us in rural Virginia that will be greatly challenged by having someone who well represents our intelligence, work ethic and commitment to faith and family leading the state over the next four years.

All registered voters may vote in this primary. Democrats and independents who want what’s best for Virginia are encouraged to vote Tuesday. Because a small turnout is likely, your vote is going to carry much more weight than usual.  Please help ensure that the best of the three men running for this candidacy is selected by voting Tuesday for Sen. Creigh Deeds.
