Books are meant to be shared
Published: February 7, 2009
Regarding Nelson Graves’ column (Present time draws memories of the past,” Feb. 5), he opened a pleasant memory from the past.
I attended Thomas Jefferson grammar school in Staunton during the late 1940s and early 1950s. We also shared textbooks. Sometimes, you might get one with two or three names of users.
I believe the recommendation of Del. Chris Saxman, R-Staunton, not to purchase new textbooks should be considered, especially if this keeps open Staunton’s Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents.
I do not believe any American student would object to used textbooks if they realize that they are helping a brother or sister with special needs.
All books are meant to be shared, with God’s Holy Word being number one.
