Man pleads guilty for role in double shooting
Otis Harrison Jr. pleaded guilty this week in Staunton Circuit Court for his role in a double shooting in Staunton last Halloween and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Harrison, 25, of Verona, entered guilty pleas Monday to malicious shooting in an occupied dwelling, two counts of malicious wounding and a felony firearm possession charge. He received a five-year prison term for the possession charge, and will serve concurrent, 10-year prison terms for the other charges, with all but six years suspended, according to online court records.
An additional charge of using a firearm in commission of a felony was dropped.
According to court records, Harrison shot a 24-year old Walnut Street resident and his 10-year old stepson following a verbal altercation outside the victims’ home. The victims were treated at Augusta Medical Center for gunshot wounds and released the next day.
Harrison’s brother, Kevin Jerome Harrison, 49, pleaded guilty in June to two counts of malicious wounding for his role and was sentenced to a five-year prison term, with all but two years suspended. He was with his brother, Otis Harrison, at the time.
Tiffany Raychelle Cheeks, who was with both Harrisons at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty May 6 to two malicious wounding charges for encouraging the incident by chanting “Five popping, six dropping, we’re the Bloods,” just prior to the time Otis Harrison started shooting, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Robertson.
The three had gone to the residence to confront a 17-year old woman Cheeks believed was having an affair with her boyfriend, according to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Louis Campola.
