A crash early Tuesday hospitalized two, but Staunton police are unsure who was driving a Ford Mustang that struck a utility pole.

At about 2:20 a.m., police responded to the 200 block of Bridge Street, finding an abandoned Mustang against a utility pole with blood inside, said Staunton police Officer Lisa Klein.

Authorities later learned of five people who were riding in the car, including two taken to Augusta Health. None could be identified as the driver.

Jessica Cash, 18, of Fishersville, was permitted to drive the car, which was owned by a relative, police said. She was intoxicated when interviewed and charged with underage possession of alcohol and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for her care of three juveniles also in the car, Klein said.

The condition of the riders was unavailable. The car incurred $6,000 in damage.
