Basic United Methodist Church, 489 N. Winchester Ave., corner of Delphine and Fifth Street, Waynesboro, the Rev. Don Gibson — This week’s schedule is as follows:

Bethany Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave., Waynesboro, Pastor Timothy Bohlmann — Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m., allowing children and adults to participate together in an opening and then break into groups based on age for further Bible study and activities. Traditional worship is at 8:30 a.m. and contemporary worship is at 11 a.m. Nursery services will be available all morning.
Other ministry areas include Christ Care Small Group ministry, music ministry, with handbells and choir, and a senior ministry, which meets each Wednesday at 10 a.m. for Bible study. The church also offers a variety of activities for middle school and high school youth.

Bible Truth Church, 16 Draft Ave., Stuarts Draft – The congregation welcomes all to its Open House on May 31 from noon to 2 p.m. This will be a time for anyone in the community to come out and learn about the church’s history, congregate with the members, get to know church leaders, as well as learn about the goodness of the Lord! The church will be having free food and drinks for all who attend and there will be door prizes given away. Calvary Baptist Church, 68 Benz Road, Waynesboro, Pastor W.T. Cole and Associate Pastor Joey Locklear – Sunday school classes begin at 9:45 a.m., with an 11 a.m. worship service led by Pastor Cole. Children’s church will be provided during the morning service. An evening service will begin at 6 p.m., led by Associate Pastor Locklear. Nursery care will be available during both services.
A Wednesday Bible study and prayer meeting will take place at 7 p.m., with Brian Read.

Community Baptist Church, 106 Stagecoach Rd., Mint Spring – The church will celebrate Women’s Day at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Guest speaker for the program will be the Reverend Willie Washington of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in New Hope. The church choir will perform during the service. All are welcome to attend.
First Presbyterian Church, 100 East Frederick St., Staunton, Dr. Richard S. Dietrich — Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. Worship will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Richard S. Dietrich will deliver the message, “In the beginning… why?,” based on the Bible text Genesis 1:1-2:4a.
Bible study is at 10:30 a.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
Bible study will take place on Wednesday with Dr. Richard Dietrich. The study will be based on Bible text Isaiah 49:8-16a and Matthew 6:24-34. Morning study will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the chapel. Evening study will take place in the Potter Building from 6:45-7:45 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 11th Street and Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, the Rev. Glen Holman — A service will begin at 8:30 a.m., with communion served. Praise and worship is at 9:30 a.m. and traditional worship is at 11 a.m. Youth Minister Adam Spencer will deliver the message, “Hope for the Hopeless,” with Acts 27 serving as the text.

Fishersville Baptist Church, 1518 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, Pastor John Hamric – Sunday school begins at 9:40 a.m., for all ages. Sunday services will be held at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Summer hours will be in effect from June 1 to August 31 and will be as follows: Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. Worship services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The following will take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.: Adult Bible study, TeamKid (ages 3 through the fifth grade) and Set Apart Youth. Choir rehearsal begins at 7:30 p.m.

Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church, 688 Highland Ave., Waynesboro – The church will host its Second Sunday Forum on Sunday at 7 p.m. The topic will be “Services for the Aging,” presented by the Valley Program for Aging Services. This is a no-cost lecture, however, free-will donations are accepted to cover the lecturer’s expenses. Meeting time is 7-8 p.m., with a short question and answer period to follow.
Hermitage Presbyterian Church, Hildebrand Church Road, off of Route 254 – The church will host a baked chicken in gravy dinner on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. The menu will include mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, rolls, beverages and dessert. Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 West Main St., Waynesboro, Pastor Todd Schlechty — Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays. Contemporary worship service is at 8:30 a.m., with a traditional service taking place at 11 a.m.
The sermon for this Sunday will be “The Power of Turning Problems into Possibilities,” delivered by the pastor. The message will be based on the Bible text, Acts 6:1-7.
The Wednesday Night Family Meal will be from 5:15-6 p.m. Discipleship small groups will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Middle River Church of the Brethren – The church will host a chicken barbecue to benefit the Middle River Church of the Brethren Haiti Mission Fund. Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 241 Sandy Ridge Road, Waynesboro, The Rev. Theresa K. Woodson – On Sunday, the church will celebrate Family and Friends Day. The normal worship service will be held at 3 p.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m.
Minister John Toliver, Jr. will deliver the sermon. The Disciples of Harmony will be the special music guest. Come out and worship with the congregation.
Powerhouse Holiness Church, 158 Montrose Drive, Fishersville – The church will present the Rev. M. A. Turner, Sr. and choir on Sunday at 3 p.m. This is a pre-anniversary service for Pastor Sylvia Spears. Come out and have a good time praising the Lord.

Rodes United Methodist Church, 286 Avon Road, Afton – On Saturday at 7 p.m., the church will sponsor a spring concert featuring an internationally-acclaimed musical duo, Tanya Anisimova of Faber and Lydia Frumkin, professor of piano at Oberlin College in Ohio.
Anisimova, one of today’s best cellists, and Frumkin will perform virtuostic works for cello and piano by Italian, Spanish and Russian composers.

Second Presbyterian Church, 133 N. Delphine Ave., Waynesboro, The Rev. Dr. John L. McDonald — Sunday school classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. This Sunday, the pre-school and Kids’ Journeys in Faith class will study “Early Life of Moses.” The Thoughtful Sunday school class will study faith issues.

Waynesboro Grace Lutheran Church – The church will host a fundraising event on Saturday at 8 a.m. Funds raised will go to help fund travel expenses for the ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans next summer. A group of 10-18 local youth and adults plan to attend. We have a large quantity and variety of items donated from members and from an estate.

Pastor William Washington, founder and executive director of “The Bridge Ministry,” a residential program for men struggling with life-controlling issues, will be the guest speaker.

Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1700 Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro, Pastor Will Johns — This Saturday, Sabbath school is at 9:30 a.m., with Bible study classes geared specifically for children from birth through age 18. There are also several adult classes available, which are currently studying the topic of the wonder of Jesus.

Beverly Manor will be hosting their annual Senior Citizens Day Program on Sunday at 11 a.m. The service will be lead under the direction of Pastor James McIntosh. Lunch will be served following the morning service. All senior citizens will be honored with a special recognition of two faithful seniors. Everyone is invited to worship and fellowship.
The Community Bible Study announces their newest study. The title of the six-week study is “Fully Alive: Step into a life of Freedom and Fullness in Christ,” with James Robison and Beth Moore.
The study will take place Thursdays, concluding May 22, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Fishersville Baptist Church. The cost is $5 and includes a workbook and childcare. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 500 South Wayne Avenue in Waynesboro announces it has recently redesigned and improved its Web site. The purpose of the new design was to bring focus to the church’s new mission statement, “Growing in Christ, Deeper Roots Expanded Reach.” The Web site is located at http://gracewaynesboro.org/. The work was completed by Hurst Web Design Company of Edinburg. Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church started in 1893 and has grown. The congregation membership now exceeds 500. Take advantage of two opportunities to hear the SIFA African Children’s Choir, a group of children chosen to come to the United States on their first U.S. tour. The word SIFA is Swahili for praise and stands for the praise these children wish to bring to God for giving them the opportunity to be a small part of the solution of bringing hope to their suffering country.
On Saturday at 7 p.m., there will be a time to interact with the children and hear them sing at the Solid Rock Café in Waynesboro.
Then, on Sunday, SIFA will perform at 2 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran. The concert is open to the public and a love offering will be collected. Thrivent will be matching $1 for every $1.50 that is collected for this community outreach event.

Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren will host the First Annual Benefit Concert for the Faith Primary School on May 31. Special guests will include Susan and Debbie Sandridge of “Only Grace,” providing music from 4-6 p.m. From 6-7 p.m., Global Puppet Ministries will present a puppet show. Starting at 7 p.m., Glen Shelton and Smokey Wilson; and the Dan Keeton Quartet (formerly of the Dixie Melody Boys) will perform. Food and drinks will be available. Other activities will include crafts and face painting. T-shirts and CDs will also be available.
Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren is located at 19 Brown’s Lane in Waynesboro. Tickets will be available at the Faith Primary School, Jackie B’s in Waynesboro, Mane Effect Hair Salon in Staunton and Blessings Christian Book Store in Harrisonburg.
On Sunday, September 28, the congregation of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church will welcome Franklin Graham, CEO and president of Samaritan’s Purse and the son of the Rev. Billy Graham. While at the historic Fishersville church, Graham will be able to visit the gravestone of his great-great-great-great grandfather, the Rev. John McCue, who served as the church’s third minister from 1791 until his death in 1818.
“Our church is thrilled to have this historic connection to such a wonderful family. We look forward to having Franklin Graham lead us in the worship of our God on September 28 as we celebrate what God has done and is doing in the life of Tinkling Spring,” said Tinkling Spring pastor, the Rev. Jason Whitener.
Graham is expected to deliver the message during the 11 a.m. worship service. Plans are under way to provide room for visitors at Tinkling Spring during the service. “We will make every effort to welcome visitors from our community to worship on the 28th. It is always a joy to have guests with us, any time they’re able to come!” Whitener said.
