»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Virginia State Police identified the victim as Clara Marie Lucas, 49, of Craigsville.

State police 1st Sgt. Scott VanLear said Lucas was traveling north on Route 42 in the West Augusta area, about 2 miles south of Route 254, about 7:30 a.m.

VanLear said the 2007 Subaru Excel she was in ran off the road on the right-hand side, overcorrected and then ran off the road on the left side.

Lucas was wearing both her lap and shoulder seat belts, was not ejected and said there was no deployment of an air bag.

VanLear said Lucas initially was taken to Augusta Health and released. She returned to the hospital later Wednesday, and was transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center.

But she subsequently died, VanLear said.

Her time of death was not available, but VanLear said he was notified of her passing by an insurance company Thursday.
