Waynesboro man charged with attack on soccer coach

A Waynesboro man was charged Saturday with assaulting a soccer coach.

Sgt. T.W. Shifflett of the Augusta County Sheriff's Office said Gregory Jones, 44, was charged with misdemeanor assault of a soccer coach during a match at the Eastside Speedway Soccer Field.

Shifflett said the incident happened about 9:34 a.m.

The injured coach was taken to the hospital for treatment and it was determined he had a broken shoulder.

Shifflett said the charge against Jones could be upgraded by the Augusta County Commonwealth's Attorney.
