Many of you knew and will recall my late husband, Marvin Davis. Marvin was entrusted by the residents of Nelson County to have the privilege of serving as Treasurer from 1972 to 1998. During Marvin’s tenure, back in 1993, he hired a young lady named Angela Fortune Johnson as a deputy treasurer.
Marvin expressed to me many times that he was impressed by Angi’s hard work and desire to learn as much as she could about her position.
She quickly mastered the treasurer’s office procedures. Additionally, Angi attended classes and training in order to gain more knowledge about her position and the responsibilities of the office.
Marvin quickly recognized that Angi truly cared about the position, worked well with other people in the office and was willing to extend herself to do the best possible job for the people of Nelson.
It became readily apparent that Angi was an outstanding deputy, and thus an obvious potential future treasurer for our county.
For the past 18 years, Angi has dutifully served the county treasurer’s office, first as deputy treasurer, and then as chief deputy following a promotion in 2009. Angi has served under Marvin and under the current treasurer, Erma D. Harris.
Among other accomplishments, Angi is the first deputy treasurer in our county’s history to be awarded the certification of Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer by the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia.
As Erma has decided to retire, we are given choices as to her replacement. Angi Fortune Johnson is in the running, and I believe she is the best choice. I make this statement based upon many years of knowing Angi. No one else can offer the on-the-job experience and professionalism that Angi Johnson has.
Further, her honesty, reliability and ability to work courteously with the public have been proven.
For Angi Johnson to be on the ballot in November she must win the Democratic primary on Tuesday. The primary will be held at the Lovingston firehouse from 3 to7 p.m. Stop by anytime between 3 and 7, sign in and vote. It will take 2 to 3 minutes.
Please join me Tuesday to vote for Angela “Angi” Johnson, the candidate with the experience, training, integrity and knowledge to be our next treasurer of Nelson County.
