Authorities are seeking a second suspect in the killing of Eduardo “Piku” Herrera, Waynesboro police said Wednesday night.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Abeil Javier Vazquez, 18, on second degree murder charges in the fatal stabbing of Herrera. Police said they believe Vazquez is traveling with another suspect, David Luna Sanchez, 21, of Lyndhurst, in a 1990s primer-black Ford Taurus.

The men have sought help “so they can get out of the area,” said Waynesboro police Sgt. Kelly Walker, the department spokesman.

Herrera, a Puerto Rican immigrant, was stabbed at least once in the chest at 9 p.m. Sunday in an alley behind the apartment complex where he lived at 260 N. Commerce Ave. in Waynesboro. He was the second resident of the complex killed in five weeks.

Roughly a year ago, Sanchez pleaded guilty along with two others to beating Herrera, 38, with a baseball bat at the apartment building.

Police request that anyone with information call the department at (540) 942-6675 or Central Shenandoah CrimeStoppers at 1-800-322-2017.
