A donnybrook broke out early Saturday during an alcohol-fueled party in a field near Waynesboro, leaving one man hospitalized after he was stabbed in the back.
The 19-year-old stabbing victim has since returned home from the University of Virginia Medical Center, said authorities with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, who will not name the victim.
Authorities arrested Nathaniel Dofflemyer, 20, of Verona, for the stabbing. He also faces drunk in public and underage possession of alcohol charges.
Deputies responded to a field north of Waynesboro in the 300 block of Rockfish Road before 1 a.m. for a report of a fight at a party. The stabbing victim was taken to Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, then to U.Va., said Sgt. Gary A. Taylor.
The scrum later spilled into Waynesboro.
Police responded at about 2 a.m. to Valley Pool & Spa, at 1520 N. Delphine Ave., for a report of a fight in progress.
“When we got there, everyone was gone,” said Cpl. J.A. Thomas.
Police learned that occupants of a white Jeep and a green car were involved in an altercation that included contact between the vehicles, causing some damage.
Police eventually found the Jeep driver, who said he had recently left the party. He denied any assault, but described a hit-and-run, said Sgt. Kelly Walker.
Police also found the driver of the green car at AMC, where he was being treated for injuries that he said were incurred at the field party. No arrests have been made.
“At this point we think we have everyone identified,” Thomas said.
Court records show Dofflemyer has been convicted of misdemeanor purchasing of alcohol for minors.
