Waynesboro church schedules second gas giveaway

With a second gas card giveaway, the Waynesboro Seventh Day Adventist Church will continue reaching out again to area motorists suffering from high fuel prices.
Beginning at 5:30 Thursday, the first 100 motorists to arrive at the church -- located at 1700 Lyndhurst Road near Interstate 64 - will receive a $10 gas card, good at all area Hess locations.
About 50 of the gas cards were left over from an similar event last Thursday, Pastor Will Johns said. Church members decided to purchase 50 more cards and try again this week, he said.
“This time, with the word getting out, I think we’all be able to give away all 100,” Johns said.
The idea of giving away gas cards surfaced as members of the church were discussing ways to provide tangible blessings to the community, in addition to spiritual outreach and education, Johns said. With fuel prices breaking records on an almost daily basis, the pump seemed like a logical place to start, he said.
